Lily (a pseudonym) is one of my best performing PhD students.
She is hardworking and has a desire to provide value through her PhD.
When she signed up for this program as a part-time student, she was a high-ranking officer in a government agency.
I asked her what she expects from her candidature - she responded that she wants to develop a system that could help entrepreneurs get funding for their venture, which is a valuable contribution beyond producing articles and papers.
Then Covid-19 happened, and several political changes happened that affects a closure of that agency - and she lost her job.... And she decided to defer her studies until she gets back on her feet, which I am sure of.
Friends, postgraduate studies is not easy and will require resilience. I wish her the best of luck.
